Shrimp Boats

During the Spring months—from March through the end of May—blackfin tuna and bonitos gather in large numbers behind the shrimp boats working the Gulf of Mexico. These pelagic predators follow the shrimpers to feast on the by-catch tossed overboard after each haul. We head out just after dawn to meet the shrimp boats, collecting fresh by-catch to use as bait. From there, we hop from boat to boat until we find the one teeming with tuna.

This method of fishing is highly visual and intensely exciting.
